BIOCID-506

Chemical Composition % Analytical method
Glutaraldehyde 50,0 p/p
Water and aggregates 50,0 p/p

BIOCID-506 is a broad-spectrum biocide that dissolves easily in water. Its activity as a biocide is the result of glutaraldehyde's ability to react with primary amines, such as those present in the amino acids lysine and arginine, which form part of the microbial cell wall. The fixing action can prevent a microorganism from carrying out its normal metabolic functions, leading to cell death.

Antimicrobials are effective in both acidic and basic systems. However, the rate of antimicrobial activity depends on several factors, including pH, duration, temperature, and concentration. Of these factors, pH is the most important in determining preservative activity under typical conditions of use.

BIOCID-506 has antiseptic and disinfectant properties against all microorganisms, including gram+ and gram- bacteria, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, spores, fungi (such as Fusarium fungus), and viruses (such as hepatitis B or COVID-19), meaning that it actually has a sterilizing effect. It acts by reacting with the amino group of proteins to form an irreversible complex.
